35-year-old accidentally "steals" his 30-year-old coworker's BF during amusement park trip

It only took a single trip to the amusement park with a coworker for this person to have an oversized impact on their relationship!

Many single people don't mind being the third wheel, and this guy didn't, either. It turns out that his coworker was the one who had an issue with it. Not sure why she'd invite him in the first place if she felt that way!

  • When you're hanging out with a friend group, it's often immediately clear to everyone there which people have chemistry, and which don't. It's hard to describe exactly what it is that creates chemistry between people. It's often that they can talk endlessly about any subject, that they're attracted to each other, and/or that they make each other laugh a lot. It feels effortless to hang out with someone you have great chemistry with, and you never get tired of them, or feel like it's a big stretch to make conversation. 

    If you're single, you probably know this feeling all too well. You want to get along with your friend's partners, but you have to be careful that they don't start acting like they're too into you! You have to take a measured response to the situation and play it cool. 

    This man actually thought he was playing it cool, and he totally wasn't hitting on his coworker's BF. The only problem is that his coworker seemed convinced that he was… and that he and the BF had some great chemistry going on.

  • obligatory "this didn't happen today" So I'm an amusement park kind of guy but most of my friends either actively dislike them or don't like them enough to pay to go. and like sit in traffic.

  • I had this coworker (30sF. at the time I was 35m) who I wasn't like friends friends with but definitely pre- friends and one day we're talking and she mentions she also likes amusement parks.

  • So I say we should go sometime to which she says "great? can I bring my boyfriend?" (in retrospect i think she didn't realize I WASN'T asking her on a date, parks are just less boring when you're with a friend) so I say "sure sounds great" and we make plans to meet at the park.

    5 minutes in him and I are getting along like a house on fire, turns out we have a lot of similar interests and we're just having a great time the way 2 dudes can immediately.

  • So we're hanging out at the wave pool and we're trying to include her but honestly the two of us had more in common than either one of us did with her and she's giving the terse "it's fine" and so eventually he's like "look you're upset and if I can I want to fix it so can you tell me what's wrong?" and she screams "I've just spent the past 5 hours with my boyfriend and apparently his SOULMATE!" and here's where I really double down on the FU, she said that and I laughed.

    As people noted, this guy doesn't have much to apologize for. Like, had the GF never met any of her BF's friends before? Why was she so jealous of this? Presuming her BF was straight, why did she even care if they 2 guys had a natural friendship?

    Some people noted that the jealousy definitely stemmed from some part of the relationship, some type of need that wasn't being met, and that was exacerbated by the amusement park incident. If you're secure in your relationship, knowing that your partner thinks you're the best person on the planet, you'd never be phased by your BF finding a friend. You'd probably be happy for him, if anything. 

    And it's not like the coworker was a woman too — there really wasn't any reason for this coworker to project her own feelings about “soulmates" onto him. 

    I wonder if this amusement park incident made this woman realize that she wasn't her own BF's soulmate, which must've been a startling realization. And then that begs the quesion: if her own BF isn't her soul mate, then who is? And should they break things off just because of that?

  • GiraffeWithATop... I once dated a woman who would express jealousy when I hung out with my friends. It was weird and controlling and I don't recommend it to anybody.

  • Carradee Sheesh. I'd laugh, too, because that's just ridiculous. She was upset that her partner found a new buddy and communicated thatby blowing up at him. Makes me wonder what else she tried to sabotage.
